How to create the perfect baby shower gift registry

Baby shower gift registries are rising in popularity and for good reason! It gives your friends and family a better idea of what you and your baby actually need. No more awkward returns or duplicates, only gifts you love.

Here is a little guide to help you build your baby shower gift registry so you can build a baby registry for your family filled with products you’ll actually use when your little one arrives.

When should I make my baby registry?

There is no right time to create your baby registry, but most parents create their wishlist ahead of their baby shower to share with guests. Baby showers are usually hosted in the third trimester. So, we recommend starting to build your baby shower registry 3 to 4 months before your due date. Giving you plenty of time to plan what you need and any special items you would love.

Because your registry is not public to anyone until you share it you can also start to build it way earlier (some parents like to kick it off after the anatomy scan on the 20-week mark) and share it when the baby shower gets closer.

When and how should I share my baby registry?

If you’re having a baby shower, the most common thing is to share your registry as you extend the invitation. You can include the link to your registry as part of the invitation or you can share it when friends and family ask you what they can get you to help with the baby’s arrival.

If you want only friends and family to see your registry, but don’t feel comfortable making it totally public you will find the option to “Create a password” for your registry when you’re on your list.

How many items should I add to my baby registry?

The average MyCrib parent adds 35 items to their registry. However, that's just an average and we recommend you base it on the amount of friends and family you’re sharing your list with. Remember, you can use the heart icon on the list to let guests know what items you would like to prioritize.

The average total worth of a UK baby shower registry is £1,000 - £1,200. But remember, there is no expectation that every single item on the registry will be bought for you.

Plus, make the most of our group gifting feature which allows you to highlight extra special items you have been dreaming about for your little one.

Is it okay to add big purchases to my baby registry?

Yes! This is where group gifting comes in.

Your friends and family want to know what you really want and need, so there’s no issue with adding a pushchair, crib, or other item that might be higher in price. MyCrib's group gifting option allows people to contribute as much as they like towards the item. Simply tick the box “ Allow contributions on this item” above the “Add to list” button on any product you’d like.

The money then directly goes to your cash fund (more on setting that up in our FAQs). We don't take any commission, so you will get exactly what your family and friends have contributed. When friends and family want to contribute to a gift, we will then show them the link you added as your cash fund. We don't hold any of the money, so everything is deposited straight into the cash fund you created (e.g. Paypal/Revolut).

How can I make a baby registry with products from different sites?

Say you’ve got your eyes on a nursing pillow from Mamas & Paps, a comforter from the White Company and a pyjama set from Selfridges.

MyCrib is a universal baby registry that combines stores in one convenient place.

You can add any product from any site on the internet. Simply use the “Add product via a link” functionality which you can find at the bottom of your list or at the top of the catalogue.
